Softball: A Home for Now
Dear People,
Here's where we stand as we end another year as The Finest Unaffiliated Email-Organized Softball League West of the Sacramento River (www.rayssoftball.com): We're more resilient, kick-ass and dynamic than ever before! Indeed, for the fifth time in as many games, our community of aerobically shameless venue-sluts played out our magical pastime on a new and different locale, and while I myself felt salaciously depraved, it was also a feeling of objectively bracing renewal.
In any case, my team took on Jerry's in a stirring 16-player battle in which both teams fought honorably with only three outfielders to cover all that scary new sod. Of course for Jerry, it was still a bittersweet managerial debut in that he got to lead his own kids into the fray, and yet the fact is that as our most fearsome familial trio, the Jerrinator, Mateo and Maria still went down, and down hard, 26-18.
The point is that San Pablo #2 is a raw, verdant and deeply sensual land, and with her current ankle-high grasses, I believe she will nurture us well until our cherished Codornices reopens in February. Of course she is also a drainage-challenged monstrosity, and thus if the insufferable rains return between now and then, we will likely promiscuate anew, even if that's not a real verb-Yeah, the English tongue is my preferred bud-laden lover, and I'm not ashamed to tell you that I sometimes like to season her. And therefore there will be a game this Sunday at 11 at San Pablo #2 (or 'SP2,' or as I tend to say, my little bog in the 'hood), IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning.
Happy New Year to you and yours . . . Raymond
