Softball: Musings on the Role of Deterministic Uncertainty in the Creation of Athletic Heroism
Dear People,
Pace's team stunned my own on Eddie's dazzling 9th-inning game-winning fly to deep center-right, 12-11, but the real fireworks occurred just seconds earlier. Dave Snyder had struck a solid two-out line drive up the middle, and as soon as bat hit leather, Amir took off from 3rd in a harrowing last-ditch bid to tie up the score. Alan Shabel managed to stop the darting orb just behind second, and as usual, his throw to home was a blistering masterpiece in the Newtonian arts. Even more compelling, Steve Bedrick courageously braced for the incoming missile, and while I thought he snagged it cold and in time, he apparently was bobbling the ball between his mitt and tender bosom as Amir came darting by.
Emotions were running high as several people instantly started to scream about the elements of a legal catch, the location of the home plate cross line, and of course, how to deal with the annoyingly subjective perceptions from which raw epistemological truth must always be derived. To be sure, these are not easily soluble problems, but regardless, I had no choice but to invoke the bitterly resented trailer's rule, thereby extending the game and giving Pace's contingent one last chance that they may or may not have actually deserved.
And so; Does this mean I'm saying that Eddie's dispositive super blast was carrying the unsightly taint of a moist, tawdry and wholly engorged asterisk? I honestly don't know.
Still, I would gently suggest that the aerobic chain of opportunistic causation is often ethically nuanced. Admittedly, who wouldn't? So while good 'ol EdHead had every right to smile broadly at the match's tumultuous dénouement, I'd also like to think that within the crevices of his gentle Goy conscience, there is lingering Hebraic guilt that will inevitably seep in-reflective, neurotic and indisputably justified. And therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning

Dear People,
There will (probably) be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, and as of now there are still three slots left.
If it rains a lot between now and then or climatic conditions are ambiguous that morning, you will need to check email around 10. As of now, Yahoo Weather is saying that there's a 60% chance of rain for Sunday, but with all due respect, I happened to have taken an Atmospheric Sciences class at UCSB in 1982, so I can assure you that the real figure is closer to 37%.
Regardless, this week's field fee is just $4, and that includes valet parking, corkage and complimentary same-day laundry

Softball: Sunday 9:50AM
Dear People,
I just got back form Codornices, and while she has been brutalized by a steady assault of softball-hating drizzle-piss, she is in fact already playable, puddle-free and glorious!
Yes, there is a contemptible coating of grey nimbostatus clouds above and the risk of rain is real. However, the future is nothing if not unwritten, and every fiber of my being says we are destined to call their meterological bluff!
Seize the aerobic day!/Transcend your fears!/See you at 11

PS: Three slots still left; Be commit #20 and the Purple Heart is yours!....
PPS: If climatic conditions degrade between now and then, or after we start, we will hold our heads high and retreat to brunch at the Crepe Vine at Shattuck and Cedar.
Softball: Sunday 10:15AM: Hosed

It's now raining/Nature Sucks/Until next week
.Patience, courage and stout resolve

PS: With apologies, I've decided not to organize a brunch in order to go to my neighborhood earthquake preparedness meeting. Really.
