Softball: Our Feats in Perspective
Dear People,
Chris Fure's team slathered my own with their copious stash of competence-cream, 18-11. And at no time was it more harshly applied than in the top of the 7th, with my team struggling to simply break free from the odiferous disgrace of the widely resented 10-run mercy rule (Thankfully, such rules never have relevance in the so-called professional leagues, and I'm not writing that just to be timely or sassy). As that fateful inning progressed, I felt the first inklings of a genuine rally, for we had runners on 1st and 2nd with zero outs and four to go. Of course we all know well that a 10-run lead is a robust lover indeed-it was 16-6 at the time-and thus as the great septuagenarian Dave Ross stepped to the plate, one could hear the distant braying of derisively mocking rutting yak.
And then, it commenced: The Rossinator unleashed a blistering line drive down the left-field line, but Frank played the orb perfectly at 3rd, allowing for both Reece at 2nd and Steve Bedrick at 1st to also step up for the most gorgeous and perfectly-relayed triple play that I think I've ever seen (Does Reece rock? Yeah, she rocks). Moreover, because the mercy rule was in effect, this particular triple play is the first in the annals of sport that did not actually end the inning, but merely advanced its imminent legacy of anomalous triumph for Chris' side and irreversible momentum-crushing despair for my own.
As my team's captain, I was rendered disconsolate by the sheer brutality of the process, and yet as a mere mortal of muscle, bone and conflicted little brainy tissue, I still get chills in knowing that as a broader athletic folk, we now join the likes of those other communities and individuals who have extended the limits of pure human achievement, from the giants of Ancient Greek Democracy and Renaissance Sculpture to Lincoln at Gettysburg, Armstrong at Tranquility Base and Bieber at Carnegie Hall; Yeah, like them, we make history-excellent, aerobic and fair. And therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 9:37AM (which is just like 11 except that it's actually 83 minutes earlier), IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning

Softball: Quickly from Boalt!---9:37, Clocks Back, 9:37, Clocks Back
With apologies to those who were confused by the fact that I told them that we were sold out and that they should read the emails, at 10:08 this
morning I apparently sent the missive below only to . . . myself. In fairness, I was juggling several organizational balls under all kinds of stress, but to be sure, I should do better...R
PS: Giants, baby!...
Dear People,
There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 9:37AM, and as of now it is already full. As always, please let me know ASAP if you committed and need to cancel, and if you still want in, feel free to get on the wait list or contact me later for news of reopened slots (To be clear; That's not just boilerplate---roster churn happens).
Also note: The field is taken at noon, so you must be there at 9:37 latest. However, it's not as cruel as it sounds, since this Saturday Night, you get to set your clocks back one full hour. In fact, if you don't, you'll arrive at 8:37, nobody will be there and you'll feel like a dufus.
$4/See ya Sunday
