Softball: A Triumph of Raw Resolve
Dear People,
Chris Fure's team jumped out to an early 13-2 2nd-inning lead, and while my side fought gallantly for the rest of the game, the fact is that we rarely emerged from the disgraceful protective sheathing of the bitterly resented 10-run mercy rule. That's not a self-debasing diss, but merely an observation, though in the end, it does suggest that we justifiably went down, and down hard, 27-20. Indeed, I think those guys just wanted it more, and probably no one among Chris' peeps wanted it more so than Aaron, who apparently misplayed Steve Bedrick's 4th-inning bouncing ground ball up the middle before curiously trying to ensnare it with his alluring left eyeball.
This is, of course, a tactically risky approach, but the fact is he kept the brutalizing orb in the infield, and while the resulting shiner would require a good two-hour rib-eye facial that night, I suspect his beaming two-week old daughter Elaine would proudly agree that this was a small price to pay for keeping both our runners from scoring that inning. Moreover, Aaron's determination was far from spent, for he was already up and batting the very next inning, with a blistering single straight to centerleft! Alas, the Aaronater celebrated Dan's follow-up blast to left by promptly falling flat on his face, his palms and his crumbling ego, half-way between 1st and 2nd. Pity.
It was an admittedly ghastly and even unsightly tumble, yet Aaron went on to get three more hits in the innings to come (!), which, as you probably know, is a community record for a batter in a post-concussive stupor. Yeah, like little Elaine cheering daddy on at home, I still get chills when I think of the resiliency of the human spirit, and therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11

Softball: History!
Dear People,
There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, and as of now there are still three slots left.
Please bring $4 for the field, which for this week only includes a rare post-match walking tour of the Berkeley-Albany border, with a special narrative emphasis on the late 19th century treaties that formed its sinuous path . . . Raymond 845-7552
