Softball: Defiant (My Progressive Berkeley Neighbors)
Dear People,
Congratz to all on a simply resplendent 13-12 paragon of softball as its meant to be, and Im not saying that just because with two out, bases loaded and my team trailing Jeremys 12-9 in the bottom of the 8th, I smashed Peters ever-taunting slow-ass wobble ball deep into shallow right, for the first game-winning Grandslam in the history of my playerhood! And to think that there are still those amongst us who dont believe in the Lord.
-------
In any case, and for no particular reason, Id like to announce that over the last few months, Ive gotten into the brazenly illegal habit of driving right through those delightful "Do not Enter: $100 Minimum Fine" barricades that partially block most of the wealthiest streets in my otherwise welcoming Elmwood neighborhood. At first, I was swept by a wave of Hebraic guilt as I barreled through them at 5 miles per hour, just so I could selfishly cut my occasional trip to Wendys store by 75% driving time.
Indeed, why should the perfectly innocent children of good and liberal Benvenue Avenue be forced to endure the noise and exhaust of my despicable 96 Saturn, simply because their houses happen to be built on a, uh
city street? I mean, if the little Benvenuettes were forced to stop playing Pampered-rich-kid-ball and move to the side of the road every time a car actually drove on it, that would make them no more special than the kids of College avenue! Yes, I understand their parents compelling case, and frankly, if I were as rich and liberal as they were, Id probably not only move to their street, but Id also agitate for sidewalk barriers to keep the ambulatory riff-raff out.
So yeah, I initially had a lot of guilt every time I passed those signs, and yet strangely, and for reasons that I dont pretend to understand, Ive somehow overcome it. In fact, I really like waving to the startled Benvenue youth as I happily drive by their perfectly manicured yards. And therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning

PS: This email is not a cry for help; Please do not inform the police, lest I get busted. Thank you.

Softball: Food and Shelter in Emeryville!
Dear People,
There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM, and as of now, there are still, shamefully, six slots left. This means that you are once again welcome to commit any of the mysterious non-community little people who speak in yearning terms of making their softball debut.
$2 for the field/blah blah blah, and so on. And now, two notices of significant local importThe first from our beloved once-a-year player, Amy (s.o. of Keith and co-owner of Hapua the Airedale, who is cuter than Keith), who brings great news of excellent breads. And the second from Nanci, our most cherished not-so-good regular player, who has rooms to rent for you and yours

This Sunday, August 1, we will be having a one-year anniversary party at the bakery. Arizmendi Bakery and Pizzeria is located at 4301 San Pablo Avenue (at 43rd St) in Emeryville. Between 12:00-5p we will have live music and be giving away cookies (which are the best damn cookies EVER if I do say so myself) as well as assorted pastries and possibly some pizza. There will also be raffles for gift certificates and other goodies. All in all not a bad way to spend some time on a Sunday afternoon. Hope any or all of you can make it. You can also visit our website at www.arizmendi-bakery.org
Take care! Amy
