Softball: Logy (The Bittersweet Machinations of Institutional Churn)

Dear People,

Steve Powers' team steamrolled over my own, 21-13, but I can hardly be held responsible since I was essentially stoned on a potent post-China blend of culture shock, jet lag and intensive 14-hour economy-class snooze privation. Ironically though, I personally played some of the finest ball of my life, going 4 for 5 at the plate while also snagging an unassisted double-play at 1st. Now look, I'm not some delusional naïf who doesn't get the complex interplay of coincidence and causation, and yet I think it's clear that if I'm ever to become the athlete you've always craved me to be, I'll have no choice but to adopt a disciplined pre-game regime of Wheaties, push-ups and Ambien.

The point is that both Tony Mac and Mary also performed with clarity and distinction, and yet stuck as they were on my side, they faced the prospect of ending their storied 5-year community careers with an ignominious end. The Maryinator and I discussed this over a succulent slab of venison at the post-match goodbye barbie, and it was there that I gently suggested that if it were me who was driving to Michigan after such a deeply annoying defeat, I'd probably break down in despair by the time I got to Reno (or perhaps Chicago-I don't really do maps).

Tony looked on with those gorgeously sad eyes and nodded in agreement, and as Mary suddenly hinted at flexibility in the timing of their cross-country sojourn, I could hear a local rutting yak bray excitedly in the distance. The fact is that no final decisions were made, and yet as I continue to emerge from my hallucinatory fog, every fiber of my being says that we will cradle them one more time before the callous Midwest swallows them whole. And therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning…Raymond

Softball: Hard

Dear People,

There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, and as of now, it is full. As always, you are welcome to sign up for the wait list or contact me later for news of reopened slots, and if you committed and need to cancel, please let me know ASAP.

This week's field fee is just $4, and that includes a rare post-match cram session for Japan's native-demoralizing Gaijin-destroying National Test for University Admissions…Raymond 845-7552
