Softball: The Call of Electronic Democracy
Dear People,
For those of you who inexplicably misprioritized, the forces of virtue and raw athletic zeal triumphed over the indolence of the multitude, with a breathtaking 20 person 14-13 slugfest that left many participants reflecting on the Gherig-era Yankees for a simple point of reference. And all this without drugs.
Next weekend is July 4th, which is certainly apt since recent historical scholarship now leaves little doubt that the founding fathers would have preferred softball to tobacco farming, if only they had been given the choice. There will therefore be another game this Saturday at 4/4:30pm (July 5th), IF I get the minimum number of commits by this Thursday night. As you reflect on possible weekend plans, you may want to look into your hearts, and ask yourself what little Tommy Paine would have done. Between camping, Tahoe and the other overrated Northern California touchy-feely excursions, AND the sublime joie de vivre of our 120 year national pastime, it seems the correct option is common sense...Ray
