Softball: Le Gloire d'un Sport sans Limites
Dear People,
Congratz to all on last Saturday's sublime 22-20 masterpiece, a game of such gripping aerobic drama that I am once again left floundering in my quest for a simple point of reference. That it occurred on the day before the Bulls squeaked past the Jazz by a single point to win their 6th NBA championship will only add to the ethereal mystery of sport itself, and to be sure, athletic historians will forever debate which game was a greater tribute to the zeal of the human spirit. Personally, I think we are probably better overall athletes than the Bulls or the Jazz, but I must concede that the abstraction of such razor-thin distinctions are best left to future generations.
And of course, there is the breathtaking beauty of Codorneices Park. It is the very essence of eco-aerobic solemnity to play on the lush grasses of deep left field, knowing that just a few feet behind you are the occasional elk or bison, traipsing by just to talk. In any case, my relationship with the Berkeley City Parks Department has entered a new and productive phase, and thus I am happy to announce that there will be another game at Codornices, next Saturday at 5PM, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning. So make that commit; do it for the cud-chewing hoofed mammals of the North Berkeley hills...Ray
PS: Extra added bonus: Due to a budgetary surplus, next game's reservation fee will be only $1, and that includes all gratuities and a complimentary dinner mint.
