Softball: A Brief Foray into the Collapse of Athletic Societies
Dear People,
If you were there, I know what you're thinking. You're thinking "What kind of bozos have a 16-0 lead at the end of half an inning, only to plunge into the ignominious abyss of a 10-inning 21-20 defeat?" Well, for those who weren't there, that would be a group of bozos captained by yours truly, and while I'm obviously not "proud" of our performance in the last 95% of the game, I actually think we showed a certain aplomb on the unsightly skid downward.
For example, with two out, one on and Jeff W's team on the verge of tying us up in the bottom of the 7th, Ken sliced a solid line-drive directly into the webbing of Ramona's trusty little glove. Alas, the sight of that pesky orb instantly popping out onto the lush infield soils below seemed to reflect the somewhat troublesome shift in momentum. What I don't quite understand, though, is why, rather than calmly scooping up the ball, throwing it to me at first and shutting down their rally (all utterly doable), Ramona chose instead to fling her mitt down while simultaneoulsy screeching "Oh dang it, gosh dang it! Son of a bitch!!"
Now true, her response was tactically less-than-helpful (my side would never hold the lead again), and yet it was an emotive display of raw aerobic honesty that is simply all too rare in this stuffy day and age. And therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning

Softball: The Glory of Cyber
Dear People,
There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM, and as of now there is still one slot left.
Please bring $3 for the field, which for this week only includes your own newly created myspace.com profile, complete with photos, softball stats and soon enough, your own personal network of at least 200,000 intimate personal friends
Ray 845-7552
PS: A Gentle Reminder: On Sunday, June 10th, we will celebrate the 10th anniversary of this leaguethe finest unaffiliated email-organized softball community West of the Sacramento Riverwith a double-header pot-luck barbecue. Commits will be accepted as usual starting next Wednesday morning, though the logistics will be a bit different.
Since Im expecting a lot more people than normal, you will be able to commit to both games, but since Ill want as many as possible to get a chance to play, you might only get a slot in one or the other. The games will be at 11AM and approximately 2PM, with the barbecue going from about 1PM onward. The field will be reserved until 5PM, so I may also try to organize an ultimate frisbee game.
Finally: A little nostalgia from the relatively early days, when getting enough players was still not so easy
