Softball: Reflections
Dear People,
Congratz to all on last week's robustly executed 18-12 paradigm of understated aerobic determination. While there was no single player who caught the eye of the national media, once again, the performance of the cohesive whole clearly placed the game qua game at a rarefied level that is rarely attained by the so-called professional teams. And unlike our Major League brethren, nearly half of us consistently reach these heights without the assistance of chewing tobaccos, steroids or even groupies. All of this only adds to my pride, and my unwavering conviction that as we begin our third year, we are now the finest unaffiliated-email-organized-amateur-softball community West of the Sacramento River. Yes, that is a brazen claim, but I stand by it with every fiber of my being.
Unfortunately, the man does not view us in such sanguine terms, and thus Kleeberger has been shamelessly reserved by Cal teams the entire weekend. Of course part of our strength lies in our intrepid embrace of geo-chronological flexibility, and thus I am delighted to announce that there will be a game this Saturday, April 24th, at 5PM, on the lush organic grasses of Codornices Field, IF I get enough commits by this Friday noon. So make that commit. This time, do it for Cordornices itself, for as most of you probably remember, this wondrous park has always served as our most faithful home in times of forced exile, and is a particularly inviting locale with its beautiful redwood setting, abundant flora, and plethora of Yak and Buffalo....Raymond
PS: The field reservation will be $2 per player, but that includes ample free parking, and a complimentary selection of freshly harvested seeding manures.
