Softball: The Perils of Synthetic Celerity
Dear People,
Jonny rose to the occasion of his long-awaited return with a sublime opening-pitch homer to deep, deep left, and I'm not noting this just because I want his entire family-from Melbourne to Joburg-to join my bosum in swelling with pride. Unfortunately, I don't recall anything he did afterward, though I assume he floundered on the usual shoals of drift, fear and feckless mediocrity.
In any case, Chris Fure's team later let loose in a terrifying, final-inning assault of low-hopping bullet balls, and thus my side succumbed on the last hit of the game, 23-22. Their rally was a well-crafted display of raw grit and focus, though for the record, let's not forget that they unleashed it on the buttery, frictionless terrain of Maxwell's all-polyurethane sheathing. Frankly, ceaseless teste-threatening grounders on Astroturf is a pussy's tactic, and I for one think they should be ashamed of themselves.
In fact, and now that I think about it, I do remember poor Jonny trembling uncontrollably at 3rd-his trusty leather-padded glove held discretely in front of his uniquely expansive groinal area. And therefore there will be a game at 100% all-bionatural Grove Field this Sunday at 4PM, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning
