Softball: An Enlightenment-Era Gloss on the Nexus of Sport and Bonding
Dear People,
In one of those indelible paragons of majestic competitive sport that reflect the transcendent realm of Kantian virtue itself, my side clobbered Chris Fure's in 11 grueling innings, 14-11. Indeed, that the game took place at all was a tribute to the selfless perseverance of those virtuous players who arrived early in order to rake over our infield's mud-laden soils, and to them, this community owes a debt of nearly incalculable hoeage (Of course I personally would've bucketed out that 2nd-base mega-puddle instead of just sprinkling it with simple dirt, though in fairness, there was a certain thrill in darting through the textual sensuality of ankle-destroying quicksand).
The point is that Chris led his contingent with undeniable honor, and in a way, it breaks my heart that he came up short in the very match that his beloved new Stephanie made her staggering community debut. In fact, her own blistering 5th-inning double to left triggered their go-ahead ten-run rally, which I guess is doubly ironic given their triumph would've been sealed in the 9th had our hero simply thrown Pace out at home way back in the 2nd. If you would, allow me to explicate.
As I recall, the Pacester had blasted a deep fly ball to right and was rounding 3rd when Chris reached out for the cutoff throw to the mound. It's important to note that Pace was only half way down the baseline when our hero caught the incoming orb and spun perfectly toward the plate, but then, and for reasons I don't pretend to understand, he hurled the ball straight into the virgin muck immediately to the left of his big right toe. In so doing, he gave up the run, his dignity, and by the irrefutable logic of proximate causation, the very win that Steph had done so much to try and procure in the draining temporal continuum between the dumbass toe throw and the 9th-inning tie. Pity.
And yet. I believe it would be utterly unjustified to say that Chris showed any less virtue than those yeoman athletes who selflessly toiled for the integrity of our pre-match field. In fact, the Kantmeister himself felt that moral rightness was simply not derived from actual outcomes, and while we clearly all know that this is deontologically ludicrous, I for one will never say that when it comes to the opportunity for basic aerobic redemption, Chris simply Kant. And therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning

Softball: Determination and Drainage
Dear People,
Recurrently annoying weather permitting, there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM, and as of now there are still five slots left. As always, if it rains heavily between now and then, assume nothing and check for an update by no later than 10AM that morning.
This week's field fee is just $4, and that includes a rare post-game sampling tour featuring the varied cuisines of the El Cerrito Plaza

Softball: Sunday 9AM: Have fun ;-(
.
Dear People,
The good news is that we're good to go and they'll be a game at 11. The bummer news is that I personally am fighting a hideous viral-flu-thing that has given me a 102 temp and a really bad case of the shivers, so I won't be there to frolic with you. HOWEVER, the well-honed constitutional procedures of communal succession are operating smoothly, and thus Chris Fure will be in charge. Please give him your unwavering respect, loyalty and love, or at least keep discussions of a coup to a discreet minimum.
Chris will be eating breakfast at Bongo Burger on Euclid as of 10AM, and he promises to treat the first person that joins him to a succulent plate of eggs and potatoes. In return, you'll be asked to help him bucket out certain minor infield puddles with the usual rakes, shovels and hoes (yeah, hoes).
I'll miss you all more than life itself/Godspeed
.Raymond
PS: Two slots now left! Call Chris at 225-8585 if interested.
