Softball: The Imminence of Birthing

Dears,

Although Mike Davey’s team beat my own in a stern 16-11 display of crass aerobic brutality, my team made all the really cool hits. I harken back in particular to Ehud’s stunning 4th inning triple into deep center left, with its taunting trajectory over Lawton’s discombobulated little head. I suspect that when most outfielders see Ehud at the plate, they snidely think to themselves, "Well, sure, you’re a renowned neurobiologist whose last published paper was on ‘Cellular Proteomics and Gated Channels in Synaptic Adhesion,’ but what can you do with a bat, Protein Boy?" Needless to say, I think the Huudster taught them all a painful lesson in the sassy range of individual human excellence, and thus in the future, we as a people will have ever greater respect for that most majestic of specimens amongst us: The AcademiStud.

In any case, and speaking of life’s homosapien pageant, I have excellent news! I just spoke to Jen and Mikey—those cherished former regulars who formed the moral backbone of our community from its inception in 1997 until their escape in 2002—and they inform me that their little Louisville love child will be popping out any day now! It’s a he, and in all candor, I have no doubt that like Ehud, this child is certain to be all Jew, all Genius, and all Jock. Unless of course, he’s like Mikey, in which case he’ll still be of the Hebraic faith.

After intensive negotiations, the three of us have agreed that he will be named ‘The Baby Formally Known as Fetus,’ or Skippy, for short. He will initially be reared in Kentucky, but the long-term plan is for all three of them to return to Berkeley by 2010 (or depending on the housing market, at least to Stockton or Bakersfield). In the meantime, I’m delighted to report that Mikey and Jen have asked me to be their son’s honorary Godmother, and because I’ve always flourished in the presence of innocent little suckling-peoples, I have humbly accepted. Yes, scattered are the soils that nurture our chosen pastime’s destiny, and therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11:00, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning…Raymond

Softball: Entrepreneurial Youth

Dear People,

There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11:00, but as of now, there are zero slots left. As always, you’re welcome to call later to see if anybody had to cancel.

This week’s field fee is just $2, and as a special bonus, I’ve been told that Eli and Justin will be setting up a cookie and lemonade stand! So come hungry, thirsty and with the necessary additional funds to support our vital pre-pubescent economy….Raymond 845-7552
