Softball: Alternative Venues of Despair
Dear People,
I know what you're thinking. You're thinking that there's no point in me even writing a missive this week, for no matter how I spin it, the bottom line is that we were hosed and hosed bad, and no amount of engrossing drivel is going to salve the pain of our athletic release denied. Trust me, I hear ya.
Still, between killer-asteroids, hairless mole rats and softball-destroying rain, I think we can all agree that any talk of the stark beauty of nature herself is a totally bogus delusion. Moreover, I don't think that as a frolic-craving folk, we can allow ourselves to be continually held hostage to the random pissy-fits of the local environment. Thus, as a way of galvanizing you to think outside the field, I would like to report on how I was able to still drink deep from the soothing well of raw and grueling exertion.
Late Sunday night I went to Yahoo Games and challenged Frank to a vigorous match of online 10-minute chess. Like me, I assume he was semi-nude in his organic leather lederhosen, but all I could see was the digital board. In any case, as soon as I pressed play I began to feel queasy and jejune, for his wily little queen-bitch quickly established total dominance. I tried to stave off his assault by unplugging my computer, yet he still picked off half my pawns, both my bishops and even my right friar before ruthlessly denarding my king. It was all quite brutal, but at least I lost a couple pounds.
The point is that while we can't control the insensate whims of our inscrutable natural world, we don't have to grow wan and flabby whenever there's a rainout! No, my friends, we can each grab the bull by the aerobic balls and seek out those activities that nurture body, soul and brain (inadequate and feckless though it may be). And therefore there will be a game at GROVE this Sunday at 4PM, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning

Softball: Quickly from Boalt, Home of the Law
Dear People,
There will be a game at Grove Park this Sunday at 4PM, and as of now it is full. As always, please let me know ASAP if you committed and need to cancel, and if you still want in, feel free to get on the wait list or contact me later for reopened slots.
This week's field fee is just $4, which is a small price to pay for the legal authority to gently chase away the softball-hating soccer players who will likely be there to scorn us

PS: Daylight Savings! Be sure to set your clocks back one hour on Saturday night, or you'll arrive for the game an hour early
or maybe an hour late (these concepts always strain my befuddled little brain). The point is we'll have plenty of light for both softball and ultimate frisbee afterward.
PPS: If it rains between Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon, you'll need to check email around 3 that afternoon, but as of now that looks unlikely.
PPS: Grove is at MLK and Russell, a block North of Ashby.
