Softball: The Unceasing Struggle

Dear People,

Congratz to all on last weekend's stunning multi-textured 24-16 display of dazzling aerobic grace, played as it was, so unexpectedly, on the verdant aphid-covered organic grasses of Cordeneices Park. As you know, my innards fester with the bile of a thousand unjustifiably scorned ex-lovers whenever the man seizes our legally acquired playing field. Yes, University officials will speak of "mistakes" and point to accidental double bookings, but we all know that as an unaffiliated softball playing people, we face the same hostility and oppression that has been the curse of so many before us. Indeed, while the history of the Sikhs and Tartars comes immediately to one's thoughts, I am personally reminded of the gentle stickball playing Minoan tribes of pre-Athenian Crete. Apparently, their own Diaspora was triggered by the invasion of ruthless Hittite warriors, who contemptuously viewed stickball as an intellectually inferior sport to their own pastime of kill-the-little-lamb ball.

The point is that I will not stand idly by and let the insidious ooze of unchecked beauracrap threaten the viability of our community. Therefore, there will be a game this Saturday, March 6th, at 12 noon, at Kleeberger Field North (Yes, that very field), IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning. Obviously, I could delve into my myriad of reference tools in order to reveal what absurdity stained the record of human endeavor on some particular March 6th in the not too distant past. Yet this time, I feel resorting to such bait would only cheapen the authority of the commit that I ask from you. For last week, a great injustice was done, and even though our frantic retreat to Cordoneices actually resulted in athletic glory, I would like to think that each and every one of you now understand that we must stand together if we are ever to achieve the security we need to play in peace. So make that commit. Do it for the unity of our people, lest we forever find ourselves at the mercy of Lacrosse-preferring Hittite-like UC Berkeley clerical workers...Raymond

PS: I'll call Cal-Rec tomorrow to make sure that there's not another fuck-up.
