Softball: The Varying Degrees of Medical Peril in the Process of Self-Galvanization

Dear People,

My team ruthlessly ambushed Anthony's, 12-8, in a genteel and harmonious triumph that once again highlighted the explosive and counterintuitive interplay of great physical affliction with raw aerobic dominance. Indeed, I bring up this topic in part because I think I need to clarify the nature of the semi-cryptic “You-Tea-Eye” that apparently triggered Kora's kick-ass domination of last week's game. Or more specifically, I need to clarify the plausible epistemological boundaries that several schmekel-possessing readers crossed when speculating on its enigmatic essence.

Just to be clear: Kora was in great pain that fateful Sunday morn', but no, she didn't have scurvy, she wasn't prego, and she certainly didn't have anything contagious! Even better, she's happily informed me that it's now all gone, though after further reading, I'm not so sure that I'd credit the cranberry juice.

Regardless, and as you certainly know, it's not about the juice, but about life's mystic array of inscrutable patterns. Yeah, for this last match, the Antman's contingent threatened our lead no fewer than three times, and yet for all three of those inchoate mid-game rallies, blood-curdling line drives to right were snagged by Michael Davey's magnificently outstretched glove in staggering displays of post-chemo Christ-like magic.

To be sure, I like to choose my adjectives with precisional vigor, and all the more so when discussing a soft-spoken superstar who personally prevented at least five RBIs, and who did so just three weeks after crushing an utterly contemptible strain of non-Hodgkin Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma. “Look,” the Daveyator modestly told me after his stunning 7th-inning right-to-1st double-play, “It was cancer; no biggie.” He then paused before pensively adding, “At least I didn't have a UTI-Those things are nasty.”

The point is that since I personally am now well into one of my unfortunate multi-decade playing slumps, all of this raw courage and heroism has got me thinking. Indeed, yesterday I was relaxing at my dentist's office after a deeply satisfying cleaning when Dr. Eckhart ruefully noted that I wasn't flossing well enough in the delicate region near my upper back molars, and, as he's wont to do, he then disparaged that area of my gums. Of course the Eckster doesn't play softball and can't possibly understand, but I happen to believe that as devastating as it clearly is, a little localized gingivitis is a small price to pay for unlocking my inner-childhood Korvey. So yeah, I still don't plan to floss those annoyingly inaccessible teeth, and therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning. . . Softball: BOINC!

Dear People,

There will (hopefully) be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, and as of now, there are still three slots left.

Please note: Since there may be considerable rain over the next couple days, you will need to check your email that morning. As of now, my contacts at the Weather Desk of the Estonian Consulate in Moraga say that it will be dry on Sunday, and since Codornices has drainage to die for, we should be good to go. Regardless, remember that we are a stout and risk-embracing folk by both birth and temperament, and so if climatic conditions are iffy, we play when others flee. In theory.
$5 for the field, assuming it happens…Raymond 845-7552

PS: Spoken Road, featuring our own Kora and Chris Fure, will be playing tomorrow night at the Monkey House! Details here . . .

PPS: When you've created a technology that's destined to fundamentally make the world a better place, that's something to be proud of. And when you've not only done that, but you've also played an occasional unaffiliated email-organized game of softball with a surprisngly robust domination of the mound, well, that's a life well-lived. . .

Softball: 9:25AM: Let's do this!!

Dear People,

As I type, Broh is raking away the last infield puddles, Codornices is playable and glorious, and the contemptible grey nimbostratus clouds above are breaking up before my very eyes despite the light intermittent drizzle (in theory).

Courage/Woolen mittens/See ya at 11!....Raymond

PS: Broh's group is already out there in a pre-game batting practice, and if that isn't inspirational, I don't know what.

PPS: Due to EBMUD street work, most of the parking right next to the field is closed, so plan accordingly.

PPPS: As of now, there are still two slots left for the game. Carpe aerobic diem!...

PPPPPS: Did I mention courage?!...
