Softball: The Goats we Cherish

Dear People,

Jonny’s team crushed my own on the last hit of the game, 20-19, in one of those ceaselessly see-sawing paragons of such taut recreational excellence that, in all candor, I still think it’s fair to say that neither side really “lost.” Indeed, my entire contingent was crisp and focused throughout, and in the end, it’s not like I could point to one or two people and say “Oh, they’re the reason we came up one run short.” For one thing, that’s just way too abstract, and regardless, that’s not my analytical scene.

Oh sure, it certainly wasn’t helpful that Chee apparently smeared a curious blend of vaseline and banana-peel resin inside his mitt, but it’s not like that many balls are hit to center-left anyway. Moreover, just because Frank struck out twice with two out and two on, it’s hard to claim that those four runners would’ve made a difference, except perhaps in the most banal mathematical sense.

The point is that the Frankensteiner must have been under a lot of pressure-pooh, what with his reputation as a solid clutch hitter raising the expectative stakes so dang high. Moreover, Alan Brill’s pitches were streaking past the plate at well over 3 miles per hour, so in the end, my friends, you can cast game-dispositive aspersions all you want, but unless you’ve stood in Frankie’s shoes, I’d gently suggest you should ask yourself who wouldn’t have struck out with the game tied and two on in the last critical innings? Twice. At softball (which, in fairness, is just as hard as baseball although the pitches are about 96% slower). I think you see my point, and therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning…Ray

Softball: The Hinge of Fate

Dear People,

There will hopefully be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM, and as of now there are still four slots left. I am well aware that a despicable series of moist nimbostratus clouds are apparently approaching the Bay Area, but my sources at the Weather Desk of the Slovenian consulate in Fremont assure me that such climatic gloom is nothing more than fear-mongering drivel. Regardless, and as you know, I will do everything in my tiny little power to bring you the aerobic release that you so desperately crave.

Assume nothing/Check email Sunday morning/$3 for the field, unless it’s an unplayable suck-swamp of terrifying filth…Ray 845-7552

Softball: Sunday 9:20AM: Brief Reflections on a Rainy ’Morn

Dear People,

As you are undoubtedly aware, we’ve once again been hosed by “nature,” proving beyond any doubt that the entire concept is an overrated softball-hostile monstrosity.

Codornices too soaked/Astroturf fields taken/Courage, patience, stout and ceaseless resolve…Ray

Softball: Spontanious Softball Aerobic Brunch at Saul’s Deli at 11AM!!

Chris, Frieda and myself will be there. If you want to join us, try to let me know by 10:40 so we know how big a table to get.
PS: Saul’s Deli is at 1457 Sharttuck (between Cedar and Rose). It’s a fine Jewish deli with excellent eggs, pastrami sandwhiches, chicken soup and latkes. Highly recommended for the goy and curious.
