Softball: Equilibrium as a Conceptual Necessity in the Athletic Ether

Dear People,

In our first official game in three soggy weeks, Chris Fure’s team crushed my own, 16-11, but as usual, there was a deeper metaphysical gestalt that utterly transcends the prosaic realities of victor and score (and I’m not writing that just because these topical foci could easily pass for one of those hoity-toity brands of organic goat cheese that Whole Foods loves to sell for $20 a pound—“Victor and Score: A Proud Tradition of Fine Hircine Cheeses”).

The point is that this particular game was a painful reminder of the ceaseless interplay of symmetry and sport, as seen by our two dueling pitchers in search of their bliss. It began in the top of the 5th, when Frank smashed Ehud’s genteel and lingering curve ball straight up the middle, leaving the Huud’s perfectly innocent tibia in a state of somewhat elevated distress. Of course fair is fair, and so just minutes later, Ramona matched Frank on a sensual Alan Brill sinker, drilling it right back to the mound at twice the speed of sound. Curiously, though, the Brillster attempted to “stop” this rocketing orb with the lower part of his left patella, thereby proving that a knee is not a mitt.

Both hurlers were iced, cuddled and nurtured back to sentience, and
thankfully, both went on to pitch again. Most importantly, of course,
ouchy-poohs had been joined and aerobic balance restored, for as we all know, no player can relish their triumph if based on the brittle-boned injustice of one-sided torment. Yes, I think we can agree that however inadvertently, Ramona only did what destiny demanded, and therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning…Ray 845-7552

Softball: Swamped

Dear People,

There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM, and as of now it is full. As always, please let me know ASAP if you committed and need to cancel, and feel to contact me later to see if there are
reopened slots.

This week's field fee is just $3, which in fairness, is a small price to pay for the basic infrastructure of civilized aerobic society…Ray 845-7552
