Softball: A Change in Venue
Dear People,
Congratz to all on last week's essentially stellar yet somewhat abridged 8 inning 20-15 display of rarefied athletic magnificence. Yes, it may be tempting to wax bitter and surly over the seizing of our field by the laconically mysterious soccer playing peoples, but we must remember that we were in fact still frolicking a full 10 minutes into their reservation time. Indeed, while they play an exotic and peculiar sport that few on earth would ever take interest in, we must still embrace them as our aerobic cousins, honored contributors to the great kinesiological whole.
Unfortunately, Kleeberger is taken by campus intramurals all of next week. However, because I have connections deep within crevices of the Berkeley City bureaucracy that are as malleable as they are frightening, I am able to assure continuity on your fragile road back to cardiovascular viability. Therefore, there will be a game this Saturday (2/7) at 11AM, at San Pablo Field #1, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning. As you'll recall, San Pablo is the crown jewel of Berkeley's lush city parks, replete with organic grasses as green as the broth from a steaming bowl of algae stew. So make that commit. Not for this player or that medieval Mongol executive, but just for yourself, for the gentle opportunity to feel your naked little pinkie toes rub against the raw soils of this legendary city land...Raymond
PS: The field reservation is $2 per player, but remember, that includes plenty of free parking and your choice of a generous sample of park-raised grazing sod or all natural milking cud.
