Softball: Dreams Deferred, Big and Small
Dear People,
Although the despicable rains destroyed our game, I'm delighted to report that Nanci, Ramona, Pace, Steve Martin, Steve Seskin, Chris Fure and myself all converged at the Crepevine for a stirring and succulent feast of omelets, fresh coffee and robust philosophical discourse. Curiously, we all came to a quick consensus on the nature of consciousness, the ultimate origins of existence and most poignantly, the true meanings of democracy, a life well-lived and lover's fungus. Yet when I presented the team roster for what would have transpired that morning, we soon found ourselves in a spirited debate on the theoretical physics of aerobic probabilities.
For the record, these are the two actual teams that would've played, as revealed to the group on my trusty 4x6 pre-match card:
Ray (captain) Pace (enemy captain)
Chris Fure Alan Shabel
Jim McGuire Paul Fine
Jeff Powers Paul Horsepool
Mike Davey Tony McIntosh
Dave Snyder Anthony
Tom Bilyard Chee
Siobhan Rachel
Ramona Ellen
Dave K Tristan
Steve Seskin Hosni Mubarak
I made the obvious observation that my team would've beat Pace's by at least five runs, if for no other reason than we had better hitting and I'm an objectively more inspiring captain. Pace was indignant and muttered something about being a high school algebra teacher, and that if I couldn't see that his side would've thrashed my own, 19-7, then perhaps I was a mathematical retard. Awkwardly, I responded that the banana waffles were excellent.
The point is that I will not be flying off to Egypt and Turkey this Saturday, despite a year of meticulous planning. My college buddy Brian turns 50 this weekend and several of us were going to rock out at the pyramids, but for reasons that I don't pretend to understand, Cairo started the party without us. And therefore there will be a game at Cordonices this Sunday at 11, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning

PS: Jonny is still stuck in Australia, but he will be visiting soon! In the meantime, he insists that you join him at the link below, which as best I can tell, is a dubious web-based blend of gambling, prostitution and crank
