Softball: One More Try in the Quest for Recreational Consummation

Dear People,

I know what you’re thinking; You’re thinking “What kind of twisted pervo seduces his own cherished colleagues into solemn commitments of time, energy and raw aerobic zeal, only to crush their joyous anticipatory innocence with weekly recurring rainouts that any dumbass on earth could’ve predicted from the get-go? Does this vile little paskudnyak have no shame? Where is the shame?!”

Trust me, I hear ya, and indeed, just this morning I woke up and noticed how tanned, rested and utterly guilt-free I felt. In all candor, I myself don’t get it. And therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning. . .Raymond

Softball: Quickly from Boalt Express, Your Vital Aerobic Law Resource

Dear People,

There will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11, and as of now it is full. As always, please let me know ASAP if you committed and need to cancel, and feel free to contact me later for reopened slots. Again, you will need to check email that morning if it rains much between now and then or conditions are ambiguous, but this time I have looked deep into the climatological soul of the Lord, and best I can tell, it radiates sun and hope.

$4 for the field, because reckless long-term structural deficits are simply not our scene…Ray 845-7552

Softball: Sunday 9AM: Yes! (With a Caveat of Actuarial Import )

Dear People,

As of yesterday late afternoon, Codornices was (basically) playable and in fact many frisbee players were frolicking there. Still, there is a puddle at home plate and a couple mushy areas in the outfield, so any volunteers who want to come out a bit early with the usual buckets, sponges and hoes would be much appreciated. Yeah, hoes.

Now, having said that, I need to clarify that the Berkeley City Department of Parks and Rec is a somewhat dysfunctional bureaucracy filled with all kinds of challenging characters with their own various standards, values and agendas. The point is that there is a small chance that an employee of said department could come by to kick us off even though a few days ago I got the go-ahead from those who work in the office to use my best judgment if the field is clearly playable but the closed signs are still there (and as of yesterday, the one on the backstop fence still was).

Of course ‘clearly playable’ is in the eye of the beholder, and the kindly maintenance guy that I unfortunately ran into last week could see things differently if he actually showed up. My guess is he won’t, but I mention all this since my most cherished legal doctrine is Assumption of Risk, and this week it’s a bit there in the form of arrest, humiliation, and worst of all, simple aerobic denial (SAD).

SO, if less than 100% certainly makes you feel unclean and you want to cancel, please let me know NOW so that I can offer your slot to those still on the wait list.

See you at 11, and hopefully see a few of you with tools at 10:45ish…Ray 845-7552
