Softball: Field of Creams
Dear People,
First of all: Yes, despite all the ghastly risks and hazards, we played. My guess is that every other unaffiliated email-organized league in the Western Hemisphere wouldve cracked under the ceaseless threat of torrential drizzle, the bitter 62-degree cold, and of course, the sight of their own homeland grasses under a contemptible patina of wetness and gunge. Indeed, I myself had gone to Codornices that somber morn, and I can tell you that as I eased my naked little toes into her saturated center-left tundra, I nearly broke down and cried. But of course, were a stout, hale and adaptable people, and in the end, I think we can all agree that there is nothing more magnificent than playing softball on a clean petrochemical sheathing of pure verdant plastic.
In any case, Chris Fures team beat my own 25-16, but lets be real; They scored 12 runs in the top of the first, when my side was just settling into our new digs. We were clearly confused, frightened and did not yet understand that the insidious synthetic turf transforms normally flaccid grounders into searing line drives (and no, Im not saying that just to flout the traditional semantic limits of adjectives related to flaccitude).
The fact is that if you eliminate that first totally unfair inning, my team actually outscored Chris 15-13! So sure, I tip my hat to them for winning their own aerobic Iowa. But I think we all realize that by any standard of recreational ethics, wide is the gap between the final score and Justiceville. And therefore there will be a game at Codornices this Sunday at 11AM IF I get enough commits by this Friday morning
